| Construction of Daytona High School on Third Avenue was begun in 1926. It was built at a cost of $350,000 and even though the initial enrollment was less than 400 students the facility was designed to accommodate up to 1200 students because of the size of the upcoming elementary classes. Yearbooks of that era indicate that 1927-28 was the year the "Panthers" became the "Buccaneers" and the school colors were changed to Blue & Gold but specific documentation is sketchy. |
